    On the 28th of March, Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (Pune) hosted the National Cyber Media Conclave, the first ever of its kind in the country, in a successful attempt to bridge the distance between the alien cyber space as a tool for advertising/ publicity and the media moguls of the future, enlightening the participants about the potential of the simplest of activities such as blogging and social networking to influence social change and even the markets.

    The conclave showcased entrepreneurs, techies and other experts talk about the endless potential of cyber space, scrutinizing the variety and innovation of its use by people from different walks of life. The event was split into two main sessions with 4-5 speakers each
    and was titled ‘Potency of cyber media for information exchange, social change and networking’ and the ‘Emergence of the web as a medium for branding and marketing’ respectively.

    Apart from insightful knowledge sharing, the speakers also gave opinions and guidelines in exploring job opportunities for media professionals in advertising, public relations, journalism and audio-visual production within the field of cyber media and communication.

    Kiruba Shankar, co-founder of Knowledge Fountain and CEO, Business Blogging Pvt. Ltd. and host of the famous ‘Kiruba Show’ kick started the day with a fun and interactive session. Mr. Kiruba spoke about the internet as a tool for knowledge sharing and networking, highlighting the importance of retaining your visibility in the job market via the internet, citing examples of the Google and Oracle hiring process, that prefer candidates who produce maximum results when ‘Googled’

    Shivam Vij, Indiblog winner and a journalist with Tehelka shed light on the changes evolving in the mainstream media and social media, stressing that the most famous bloggers are those that do not care about the comments enough to change their style, reminding passionate writers that their blog space is indeed their own space.

    23 year old Shiv Bhaskar Dravid, founder of ‘The Viewspaper’ spoke of the Cyber News Media being the ultimate 4th estate and the role of the public as guardians of the same. He urged the youth to exploit the internet medium for expression of their views, since it is the only medium that is not controlled by anybody, be it political parties or shareholders.


    Rajesh Lalwani, Founder & Director, Scenario Consulting Private Limited, Pitchh.com and Blogworks.com set the audience a gaping as he played a video about the remarkable footfalls on social networking sites and thereby drew inferences on exploiting this medium as a tool for advertising.

    Next set to intrigue the audience with a case study on the famous and immensely successful ‘Bell Bajao’ campaign was Ms. Rashmi, (Marketing Manager, Bell Bajao campaign) who threw insights on the formulation and execution of the campaign that changes hundreds of homes suffering from domestic violence and more importantly, the passive observers.

    Mr. Atul Chitnis, Senior Vice-President, Geodesic Information Systems, enticed the audience with a display of his top notch gadget collection explaining how these devices are evolving to change human lifestyle. Mr. Atul spoke on the business of ‘Open Source’ softwares, its indispensability, its future and its power to drive the markets.
